Staff Review – Scott Genius 710

Monday 4 January 2016, Filed in: General

Hello Mike here, I just wanted to share my thoughts on my personal favourite bike, a Scott Genius!

My Background

I have worked at On Yer Bike for 17 years now!! You read right 17 years, I started as a Saturday lad working weekends and never left. Cycling has always been a part of my life I used to trails ride hopping up and down and around obstacles. I had to stop that due to picking up to many injuries as it takes its toll on your back especially. I now Mountain Bike on all the local trails from Gisburn Forrest to Accrington Coppice.

About the bike

I have ridden a Scott Genius for over 7 years now and I have seen it develop from 120mm travel to a 150mm travel, every year Scott bring the new model out which improves on what I think is an outstanding bike. The Scott Genius 710 which I ride has a 150mm travel front and rear for the perfect balance, it also comes with a twin lock lever on the bars this can tame the travel in 3 different positions, trail, descend and climb this will also adjust front and rear travel at the same time with a flick of the switch on the handle bar which is situated so you don’t need to take your hand off the handlebar, this is very useful when riding tough terrain such as Cragg Quarry where you contently need to be in full suspension or trail mode giving you more grip when climbing tough short climbs and all the travel then descending. The Scott genius comes in a wide range of aluminium and carbon models, the one I am riding has a carbon front triangle this gives it a stiffer front end and lighter to throw around into corners and throw over fences and gates but it also comes with integrated cable routing which is far more astatically pleasing on the eye. The bike has a full XT 2 x 11 group set which is so effortless and smooth through the gears and a dream to ride, fitted with a Rock Shox reverb seat post which is the best on the market but can be a little troublesome but they are backed up with a 2 years manufacturing guarantee. The bike comes with a Flat handlebar which I ride with but an upgrade to a Renthal carbon would be my 1st choice just to give you more control and a better riding position, you can also adjust the riding geometry with the chip located on the back bolt hole of the rear shock this will adjust the geometry from high (68 degree head angle) to low (67.5 degree head angle) I prefer to leave it in the low position as I find this the best all-rounder.

Summary

I have ridden the Scott Genius for a while now and I cannot find a better all-round bike, I cannot seem to climb and descend any quicker on any other bike which is why this has been the best choice of bike for me for 7 years now and for this reason I would give the Scott Genius 710

Overall 9.5/10
